Amazon Cuts on its Shipments` Footprint?

Amazon has announced its plans to cut on all Amazon shipments with 50% by 2030.

A press release published on February 18 announced the company`s vision named “Shipment Zero”, working to make shipments net zero carbon.

As the company wrote:

“Amazon has a long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100% renewable energy, and we are making solid progress.”

They added:

“With improvements in electric vehicles, aviation bio fuels, reusable packaging, and renewable energy, for the first time we can now see a path to net zero carbon delivery of shipments to customers, and we are setting an ambitious goal for ourselves to reach 50% of all Amazon shipments with net zero carbon by 2030.”

How is Amazon tracking the progress of their project?

The company says that they will share the company-wide carbon footprint, along with related goals and programs later this year. This is a follow-up on an extensive project over the past two years. The latter aims to develop and an advanced scientific model in an effort to carefully map Amazon`s footprint and provide the company`s business teams with detailed information that helps them identify ways to reduce carbon use in their business. Because customers will always demand variety, faster delivery speed, and lower costs. But Amazon also believes that lower costs include lowering the costs to the environment.

“We aren’t going at this alone. We will continue to use our scale and the feedback customers share with us to enable and encourage suppliers up and down our supply chain to reduce their own environmental impact, just as we’ve done with programs like Ship in Own Container and Frustration Free Packaging.”, the company said.

An answer to Greenpeace`s criticism

It is interesting news and quite a green initiative from Amazon`s side that`s probably trying to distract from Greenpeace`s latest report on Amazon`s negative footprint on the environment.

“Since 2017, AWS appears to have turned its back on its 100 percent renewable commitment, increasing its already massive operations in Virginia by 59 percent, without any additional renewable energy supply.”, as Greenpeace wrote.
